The Australian Football League is one of the premier leagues in Australia and has quickly gained popularity and recognition over the past few years. It is one of the most attended venues in the nation. There are 16 different teams with one more to be added in the 2011 season. The season lasts for 22 rounds and each team must step up their game in order to hope for a good spot at the end of the year.
So far in the 2010 season, the Australian Football League (or AFL) has seen some standout teams. Currently on the hot list are the Melbourne Demons who have just come off of a 50 point win over the Brisbane Lions. This was the Lions’ first loss of the season and it was an embarrassing one.
The Demons look to be one of the most improved teams in the AFL and showed that they can handle other big teams. Their captain James McDonald led the way by attacking the ball all night, and sealed the win 12 minutes into the final term.
Other than this upset however, the Brisbane Lions look to be on the top four lists along with teams like the Sydney Swans. The Lions have had a few extremely consistent players amid the big loss including Simon Black who came away with 32 disposals and 7 clearances and Matt Maguire on defence.
The loss to the Demons seems to be a wake-up call for the Lions who will meet up with the Sydney Swans next week.
