AFL chief operating office Gillon McLachlan stated that in order for the winner to have an accurate time to prepare for a Friday-night semi-final match in week number two, the League would have to determine on scheduling the match with Framentle playing in the Saturday afternoon time slot.
The loser of Geelong-St Kilda will be the team’s competitor.
To give more benefits of practicing, the teams of both Collingwood and Western Bulldog of the qualifying finals
have been scheduled for Saturday night.
Here’s what Gillon McLachlan had to say below:

“In each case, the loser of the qualifying final match will have one day longer than its opponent to prepare for the semi-final match in week two, to ensure that any advantage through the finals should rest with higher-placed teams on the ladder.
“We congratulate all the teams that have made the eight and look forward to an exciting finals series given the quality of the football that has been on display through the first 22 rounds.
“We thank all football supporters for their support of the game throughout 2010 and look forward to them enjoying the finals series.”

Australian Rules Football game broadcasts will now be available live in China once a week after the Shanghai Media Group and the Australian Football League (AFL) agreed to a deal this week.
This deal takes effect immediately, meaning viewers in China will be able to watch the AFL’s playoff games, which begin this week.
The chief executive for the AFL, Andrew Demetriou said that they are looking forward to being able to show Australian football to one of the largest markets in the world. This will also popularize football betting in China. He continued that it is exciting as they work to create the code while on the international stage.
Every week during 2011 there will be an AFL match telecast live. This will be the regular season and there will be pre-match programming as well to go over the code.
There will be an exhibition match between the Melbourne Demons Club and the Brisbane Lions as part of the deal. This will take place on October 17th in Shanghai.
China has seen a rush of foreign sport leagues coming to the country in the hopes of establishing a foot hold in the growing sport market that is developing in china. However, European soccer and the NBA basketball teams have had little luck when show casing their products in the state run media of the country.

After copping a 116-point belting, it is not every week that a team is sensationally backed. However, with Fremantle, that’s the case. To beat Carlton at Subiaco Oval tonight, it has been the subject of a huge betting plunge.
Missing eight key players, the Dockers were smashed by Hawthorn in Launceston on Saturday. However, all the big names are back.
TAB Sportsbet’s Gary Davies said, “The support for the Dockers is quite amazing. They have been backed from $1.75 into $1.65, with Carlton drifting from $2 to $2.20.We have taken six times as much money on Fremantle as we have Carlton and as a result had to trim the Dockers up.”
In a week full of betting activity, rumors that Brisbane Lions skipper Jonathan Brown would miss tomorrow night’s clash against Sydney sparked a betting frenzy on the Swans, proved correct. Against Essendon, Brown was best afield in his 200th game on Sunday after missing a week with knee soreness.
Aaron Sandilands is out to $26 in Brownlow Medal betting, but could still cause a horrendous result for TAB Sportsbet. In Turkey, the men’s world basketball championship starts tomorrow night and two TAB Sportsbet customers are chasing a $100,000 collect.
If either hot favorite, the US, or Greece can win the title, the punters will cash in. in two separate multi bets, the US and Greece are the remaining legs. At $20.58, one bet of $5000 will result in a $102,940 payday.
$130 wagered at $773.50 for a $100,555 payday was the other precise multi bet. It needed the same bet type on Carlton and Brisbane between 181-190 points ($6.50), into Greece winning the world basketball title at $17 and it needed the match score in the Round 14 clash between Adelaide and Essendon between 161-170 points ($7).

Once a week as part of a landmark deal between the Australian Football League (AFL) and Shanghai Media Group, Australian Rules football matches will be beamed live into China.

AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou said, “We are very excited to showcase Australian football to one of the world’s biggest markets as we continue to develop the code on the international stage.”
Every week during the 2011 regular season, the deal will see one AFL match telecast live with a pre-match programmed to explain the code, which commands a huge following in Australia but is virtually unheard of elsewhere.
As part of the deal, between the Melbourne Demons club and the Brisbane Lions, the AFL will play an exhibition match in commercial capital Shanghai on Oct. 17.
With the exception of NBA basketball and European soccer, have had little success showcasing their product through the country’s state-run media, although in recent years, foreign sports leagues have rushed into China, in the hope of an establishing footholds in the growing sports market.

Steven May, northern territory youngster, is the latest addition to the Gold Coast Suns’ playing ranks. He also has a key position prospect officially signing with the new AFL club as one of its priority zone picks.
In the NAB Australian Football League Under-18 All-Australian team, May was named at full-forward following the titles, but to play a variety of roles during the championships, he showed his ability.
Throughout the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, May, at 190cm and 93kg was NT’s go-to man in attack, but also showcased his versatility. Against Vic Metro, in one match he played deep in defense and showed how effective he can be at that end of the ground. Against Queensland, in NT’s final match of the championships, before pushing forward to boot two goals and help in his side’s win, he was used through the middle of the ground.
Marcus Ashcroft, Suns football manager said, “Importantly he is capable of kicking goals as he showed at APS level recently with nine goals for Melbourne Grammar School and can also play as a defender. We look forward to welcoming Steven to our young talented list when he finishes his schooling later this year.”
Regarding May, Kevin Sheehan, AFL national talent manager said, “He is a powerful and aggressive player with very strong hands in front on the lead and in a contested marking situation. [He’s] a long left-foot kick who reads the ball exceptionally well in flight and has good pace. He capped his youth career with All-Australian selection this year and he was part of the 2008 intake into the AIS-AFL Academy.”
Make sure you check out all of the football betting odds before you get in on any action this season.

Port Adelaide will take on the Sydney Swans in an Australian rules football match next week. These teams are fortunate to meet each other as they have both struggled in the past few matches they have played in.
The Swans had been on a four game losing streak entering their last match. They were fortunate to shake their slump by winning an exciting match against Essendon. They managed to win the match by nine points.
Port Adelaide has been in the middle of a slide of its own. Port Adelaide has not won any of their last four matches and they are seeking to shake the losing streak that they have been on. This match against Sydney may present a plausible situation for them to get out of their funk as they have been struggling as well. They will need to take advantage of this poor team if they hope to get back into form.
Daniel Motlop will be a key player for Port Adelaide. He has been a force to be reckoned with on offense for over a year and he can carry this team at times. In their last match he was held scoreless. Port Adelaide cannot afford to have another performance like that from their star if they hope to compete.
The Swans seem to be excited after their last win. They hope to carry the momentum that they gained into this match. If they can bring the intensity into this match that they are capable of they will be able to control this game. The Swans will be the favorites in this matchup.

This past weekend (May 22-23) in Australian Rules Football action, defending champion Geelong defeated Collingwood by 36 points in front of a crowd of 88,115 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. As a result, the two squads swapped place for first place.
The final eight goals of the match were scored by the Cats of Geelong, giving them a 12.14 (86)-6.14 (50) win. The two squads, along with Fremantle, now share 7-2 records but the Cats lead on percentages.
The Magpies of Collingwood made a strong push during a stretch that started just before halftime and ended ten minutes after halftime. They were able to transform a 16-oint deficit into an 11-point lead before Geelong exploded to end any hopes of a Collingwood win.
Football betting favorite,Collingwood entered the game on a five-game winning streak. During the streak, Collingwood employed a fast-paced, high-scoring game that saw them achieve remarkable results. Their average winning margin was 50 points. The defending champs, however, were able to maintain their poise in the finals-like atmosphere, and kept the Magpies from playing their game.
Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse was particularly disappointed in his team’s scoring inaccuracy. The Magpies only had 2 goals after halftime and had 12 behinds, including 5 at the start of the final quarter. “We didn’t have control of the match, but we certainly had control of the ball and control of the period of play,” Malthouse said. “You’ve just got to put the score on the board.”
In his 200th game for Geelong, Cameron Mooney had an outstanding performance. The veteran ended up kicking three goals.

The Australian Football League is one of the premier leagues in Australia and has quickly gained popularity and recognition over the past few years. It is one of the most attended venues in the nation. There are 16 different teams with one more to be added in the 2011 season. The season lasts for 22 rounds and each team must step up their game in order to hope for a good spot at the end of the year.
So far in the 2010 season, the Australian Football League (or AFL) has seen some standout teams. Currently on the hot list are the Melbourne Demons who have just come off of a 50 point win over the Brisbane Lions. This was the Lions’ first loss of the season and it was an embarrassing one.
The Demons look to be one of the most improved teams in the AFL and showed that they can handle other big teams. Their captain James McDonald led the way by attacking the ball all night, and sealed the win 12 minutes into the final term.
Other than this upset however, the Brisbane Lions look to be on the top four lists along with teams like the Sydney Swans. The Lions have had a few extremely consistent players amid the big loss including Simon Black who came away with 32 disposals and 7 clearances and Matt Maguire on defence.
The loss to the Demons seems to be a wake-up call for the Lions who will meet up with the Sydney Swans next week.
